on the edge – south africa

Where to begin?
As there is no end.

At first glance, there is only untamed nature.. wind resistant coastal shrubs, indigenous fynbos, milk wood trees, succulents embracing something unseen, unknown.
And the unmistakable scent of salt carried on waves roaring in the near distance.
Crushed rocks form a natural staircase, guiding the ascent toward living spaces that unfold gracefully, soundlessly across three levels. Infinitive pools appear here and there along the way, their black slate surfaces mirroring the shifting skies and turning the water into a petrol-hued bathing haven.
A masterpiece of glass and stone rises seamlessly from this wild tapestry, dissolving the boundary between interior and exterior until the distinction no longer exists. Here, space flows without beginning or end—a powerful architectural expression of continuity and calm. I had the incredible opportunity to photograph this œuvre—one of the most striking houses I have ever seen –  embedded in a marine reserve along a dramatic coastline in South Africa and facing directly onto the Atlantic. Petrol greens, ebony blacks and deep ocean blues ripple through the palette, echoing the surrounding sandy terrain and sky. An exquisite ice jade green marble countertop becomes the centerpiece, its luminous veining and form mirroring the subtle geometry of the razor edge concrete forms, creating a quiet dialogue of texture and light and a sense of weightlessness. Simply being. Breathing.
