Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.
The Omaanda Lodge by Zannierhotels – Omaanda meaning Rhinoceros in Oshiwambo and my little new paradise, which I had the chance to photograph is set right in the heart of a private wildlife reserve in Namibia. The silence is overwhelming, almost hurts. In the starry nights I could see the core of the milky way galaxy. Not only is Omaanda a barefoot approach to luxury inspired by Angelina Jolie and funded by the Jolie-Pitt Foundation but also an absolute role model hotel with the highest respect for the natural environment and local traditions, a strong sustainability policy, such as solar power and recycling, avoidance of plastic use and preserving the heritage. Conservancy plays a major role, sustainability is not a choice but a necessity. Everything flows organically from the sights, sounds, and culture of this wide, savannah-covered corner of Namibia. The camp’s huts rise out of the dusty plains looking right at home thanks to their traditional Owambo architecture. This ethnic local majority is known for its secular and sober know-how inspired by and yet respectful of the environment that surrounds it. Talented Interior Designer Géraldine Dohogne approached the decor with respect for the region’s ancestral architectural techniques in mind. A dip in the infinity pool overlooking the 9.000 hectares reserve is… well, try it out!
