LESS IS LESS.
The Off-grid itHouse is an architecturally significant house, recently noted by Dwell as one of the ‚Best Homes in America‘ and in the Los Angeles Times as one of the best houses of all time in Southern California. The Off-grid itHouse is one of 10 IT Houses built in California, which have received much acclaim such as the Western Home award sponsored by Sunset magazine.
The IT HOUSE is about reducing down to the essentials to create a pure architectural experience of space. Every component in the IT HOUSE is designed to re-engineer and radically simplify the process of building houses. Architecture should bring people closer to their environment; the IT HOUSE is the mediator between one’s every day experience and the environment. The IT HOUSE is designed to create a seamless experience between the house, environment and life. Architecture is the medium through which life happens, and the IT HOUSE is the flexible framework that allows inhabitants to seamlessly merge with their environment. The IT HOUSE functions as a highly refined structure for enhancing one’s visual and physical relationship to one’s environment and nature.
This integration with the landscape is reinforced and reflected in the design and material choices of the IT HOUSE. The system utilizes a series of pre-fabricated components creating a streamlined construction process while maintaining quality control and having minimal impact on the natural site location. The ITHOUSE can be completely off-grid, reinforcing the goal of achieving a minimal building footprint.
