HOTEL SANDERS COPENHAGEN— a little world of its own. Stepping in, this little gem wrapped me gently in its arms. Soft light, quiet corners, velvet and warmth. Almost on the waterfront, tucked away on a quiet cobbled street behind the Royal Danish Theatre, yet just moments from the pulse of the capital. More private home than hotel. Intimate, personal, understated, and very danish! I loved photographing its many little moods: the way the light falls through the windows, the rich textures, books and objects, the flowers, the warm woods and beautiful Danish design. Everything has character, soul and that feeling of having evolved naturally over time.
The vision behind Sanders is deeply personal to its owner and creator, Alexander Kolpin, the celebrated former ballet dancer whose extraordinary eye and exquisite taste can be felt throughout. Created together with London design studio Lind & Almond the interiors weave Danish mid-century design with velvet, rattan, bamboo and wonderfully eclectic references gathered from around the world. Perhaps it is Alexander’s life in ballet that gives the hotel its almost theatrical sense of rhythm — every detail seems to have its place, yet nothing feels staged.
And then there is the tropical courtyard with its myriads of plants — one of those places where coffees turns into long lunches and where you return later for a delicious dinner around candlelit tables. Sanders‘ Kitchen celebrates seasonal, locally sourced produce, while breakfast might just be one of my favourites in the city.. fresh, generous, local and beautifully uncomplicated. Think hot crusted sourdoughs and more.. And the bar with its authentic Negronis! Upstairs, the rooms continue that same feeling of quiet, residential luxury — warm woods, tactile fabrics, soft lighting and beautiful Danish design, each with its own character. An ntimate, effortlessly beautiful and definitely one of my favorite hideaways in Europe
