In her choreographic work, Sasha Waltz has continuously sought for a dialogue with other artists. For her newest choreography, she goes back to the roots of her artistic work. For this new choreography she examined with her 14 dancers the phenomena of existence against the background of a disrupted society: power and a lack of power, dominate and weakness, freedom and control, community and isolation. Sasha has been working for the first time with artist and fashion designer Iris van Herpen and light designer Urs Schönebaum – both also create interdisciplinary work and seek an exchange with various artistic-scientific forms. In her visionary, sculptural fashion art, Iris van Herpen combines traditional craftsmanship with digital technology, Urs Schönebaum has developed lighting concepts for theaters, operas, exhibitions, performances and installations worldwide – in addition for artists such as Anselm Kiefer, Robert Wilson or Michael Haneke.
Dance, costumes and light are the main elements of this new work, which is extremely vigorous and simply magnificent.
